Examples of Pension Suspension and Later Increase
Example 1 – 50% Suspension
You are of old-age pension age, and your monthly pension is €500. You decide to suspend 50% of your pension for one year. During this period, you receive €250 per month (half of the pension).
The suspended part increases by 6%, which equals €15 per month.
After 12 months the suspended and unsuspended parts are combined:
€250 + €265 = €515 per month.
This amount is paid monthly for the rest of your life.
During the suspension period, only half of the pension is paid, but the suspended portion increases your future pension. You can stop the suspension at any time and later suspend again if needed.
Example 2 – 100% Suspension
You are of old-age pension age, and your monthly pension is €580. You decide to suspend your entire pension for one year. During this period, no pension is paid.
The suspended amount increases by 6%, which equals €34.8.
After 12 months your monthly pension becomes €614.8.
This amount is paid monthly for the rest of your life.
During the suspension, the pension is not paid at all, but the full suspended amount increases your future monthly pension. You can resume the pension at any time, and the suspended amount will be added to the resumed monthly payment.
